non-profit organization, has been involved for the past decade with the
deployment and integration of appropriate networking technology in
Uzbekistan. Note that some of the posted information is old,
perhaps even historic by now. But it has been archived here to help
document the evolution of the global infrastructure - when the first
points of connectivity were established, and subsequent developments
leading up to the current state of the network within a particular country

IIPA files supplemental update
on copyright developments in Uzbekistan to the GSP subcommittee. |
Uzbekistan's laws governing the acquisition and
disposition of property pose relatively few problems for foreign investors.
Foreign entities may own buildings, but ownership of land is not legal, and
expropriation of facilities has happened.
Although Uzbekistan is not a member of
the Bern convention, the laws on copyrights are reasonable and approach
international standards. However, because of poor
enforcement, these laws have not made an appreciable dent in the wide
availability of pirated material. Uzbekistan is a consumer,
but not a significant producer, of such material. On the
streets, pirated audio and videotapes and compact disks are sold freely.
Uzbekistan has actively voiced its interest in joining the WTO, but is
only the early stages of implementation of the appropriate agreements, including
TRIPS.
