turmoil has clearly had a negative effect on the development of local Internet
development. The current market for computers and peripherals, however, is very large.
According to a National Trade Data Bank report, demand is estimated at some $200 million,

competitive products originating in the EEC.
Algeria's intellectual property practices have had no adverse effect on
U.S. trade. The U.S. Embassy knows of no instance in which U.S. firms have reported
losses on export or investment opportunities due to imported or locally-produced
counterfeited or pirated goods. Algeria ratified the 1952 Convention on copyrights
in 1973. In April 1973 the Government passed a law providing copyright protection
for books, plays, musical compositions, films, paintings, sculptures, and photographs. The
law granted authors the right to control the commercial exploitation or marketing of these
products. A proposed revision of this law is being drafted to provide protection for
video, radio, and Internet programs. Copyright protection is managed by the Office

Following complete re-organization, Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual
